Antimicrobial resistance: Impacts, challenges, and future prospects

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health issue caused by antibiotic misuse and overuse, resulting in resistant microorganisms. The “Silent Pandemic” could surpass other causes of mortality by 2050. AMR affects humans and animals, causing challenges in treating infections and potentially leading to millions of deaths annually. The economic impact is substantial, with projected losses in trillions of dollars. A One Health approach, considering human, animal, and environmental factors, is crucial for effective AMR prevention.
